Get connected but nothing else?

I'm able to connect up to EFnet servers, and I can even join channels however all I get is information on Joins, and Quits if I try to chat it shows what I type but I don't see anything else? Any ideas what is causing this, it used to work fine

sounds to me like you have everyone on ignore.
try /ignore off
