Totally off topic... I guess this is why this is in the off topic forum.. :oP

But i was wondering what peoples favorite applications were.
Can be windows, *nix based, mac, palmOS based...

I dont care.. I just think it would be interesting to know what peoples favorite apps are.

My favorite app? Well... its rather mundane and silly... but something I really couldnt live withot in my day to day work...

It's a windows app, and Its spybot search and destroy.. also windows washer.

Without those two apps.. I think I would spend half of my day kill people for downloading stupid shit.. with these two apps.. i just spank them and fix them..

Lame probably... but I really cannot live without those two apps in my day to day work life. :)

So.. lets hear some of yours?

The epic irc client. Why? Because the team that supports it rocks. Credit goes to hop, CrazyEddy and others who've ALWAYS been very helpful. Very approachable crowd who doesn't make you feel like an idiot for asking newbie questions. Embraces all comments. And best of all, they hang on EF-Net!

Mozilla because of the neat built-in pop up stopper and I can literally use it on all OSes, so there's a plus there to have a familiar interface all across.

puTTY and pscp - Well... you know, it's handy to have a free ssh client a neat secure copying tool. :)

pan - Newsreader that's simple and for the CLI impaired newsgroup enthusiast.

gqview - Gotta have a decent image viewer that works with the downloaded "artwork" from newsgroups. :)

ACDSee - What I used gqview to "replace" when I'm not using Windows. Versions 3 and older seems to be a lot less bloated, but 4.0 was $10 bucks in a store. :)

Post-it Notes - A bit of a resource hog, but a decent freebie from 3M, Post-It notes for the computer. You can use it as an alarm clock too. Very neat.

Anything that gets me on IRC to waste time.........usually mIRC - God I know how so unleet. :roll:

if they make my computer look anything like my desk i'm not so sure i need them, but they sound cool :)

Thats what i use most... I am very comfortable running mIRC and it works for me.. My second most used program would be Mozilla.. Third would be a tie between SecureCRT and CuteFTP..

Hmm.. The apps that I live by would be:

SecureCRT - I tink it owns putty :P
mIRC - I don't care what you say.. its simply the best graphical IRC client ever. Its internal data processing and scripting capabilities are top notch.
Adobe Photoshop - I use it for all image/photo things.
Notepad - what Windows user could live without it?!
FlashFXP - my FTP client.
Daemon Tools'

These are just a few of the utils/apps that I most commonly use in Windows.

Let's see...

Panicware's Pop-up stopper v2.4 to block popups in basically any browser..

SAProxy to sift through my mountains of spam email..

Cygwin for all of its wonderful *IX ports to windows (apache, openssh,
pico, nano, lynx, links, etc..)

Eudora as my email client of choice..

mIRC as my irc client of choice (although if Xircon had been better maintained I would have been using that..)

dos's edit.com to compose my tcl files in...

Notepad for html file creation...

macro express so I can play faster in tetrinet/tetrifast ;x

Bandwidth monitor to keep track how much bandwidth I've used per month..

And I guess I could go on, but I think the forum only has so much space :wink:

Hmm, lets see....

Windows:
PuTTy - Sometimes i find myself using nothing but this in windows, I always use irssi from this.
Mozilla - My browser of choice; tabs, popup blocking, cookie control, purty. Good mail client too.
FlashFXP - yep.

Unix:
screen - Everything goes into this.
irssi - Nice clean IRC client.
gnome - Window manager of choice.
Mozilla - Always there...
links-hacked - console browsing, links with support for tabs 'n stuff.
ncftp - Nice and quick, i can speed through this just as quick as something like FlashFXP, good for detaching with screen.
XMMS for X, mp3blaster for console.
mplayer - Good video player, gmplayer as a frontend.
Gaim for X, centericq for console.
pico - I started using this when I was new to Linux years ago and I've never managed to get away from it.
OpenOffice -
Pan - usenet.

Well.. as for my favorite apps...

overall for IRC I use mIRC, although just today I've been trying to find a new script since my old "ONE" isn't up to date anymore. But still. mIRC is nice, got all the features I need.

As for other apps, I can't be without AD-AWARE, Window Washer as SPAM killers etc...

For FTP I mainly use FlashFXP, always did, always will.

Incredimail is my favorite E-Mail client of all times, I have no clue why but I love it... although I don't use those fancy backgrounds and stuff, doesn't really make sense to me, maybe for some 10 y/o kiddo it's nice but not for me. Anyways, Incredimail is worth a shot.

DUE to my "nice" ISP (well no one can get VDSL working here) I'm stuck ON ISDN and use this YAW client that protects me from those kidney stones dialers... very nice app... BUT god, get VDSL or CABLE to work in GERMANY, it can't be that hard, EH!?

As firewall I hop around with ZoneAlarm, actually I've tried several ones and this one is just the best...

DU-METER for my bandwidth infos, it's so much better than any other info tool that's out there.

For telnet.... well what can I say besides give "PUTTY" a chance but you all know that putty rocks don't you?!:b

Anyways, the rest are some small apps not worth mentioning like Internet Explorer, winamp etc...

ya that's about it...
