Nick registration

Postby RoXX » Fri Mar 17, 2006 6:17 pm

Hello all
I am new on the forum but I chat on Efnet since 3 years.
I really don't care about nick registration but lately I am noticing some events, that from my point of view, are not fair.

I have always used the same nick; in the same way I see how people let the pc on in order not to lose the nick they use.

I want to state that lately I have not being able to take "my" usual nick because other person have it, and some friends of mine have told me that even other users are lurking to take the nicks they want and not even these nicks are used :(

I think it is legal but not fair....

Just this comment

Will be possible someday registering services on Efnet?

it would be fun to introduce nickserv for 1 week to watch how much abuse it would get from 120,000~ users all trying to get the same nickname

efnet pioneered nickserv back in the early 1990's, and after massive abuse, it was quickly disabled. I doubt it'll be back anytime soon.

It'd be chaotic
I'm sure that would cause users to get packeted to get their nicks registered.

I hope we wount :)

What i like about the largest networks is that they are uniqe in their way of doing it. Changing efnet into a "oper controlled enviroment" with chanserv/nickserv etc after all these years would be clsoe to impossible. I dont think we would attract more users due to it, rather scare away those who like the network the way it is. Also, who should own a channel and a nick today after all these years :)

EFnet for me is about freedom. No one really owns a nick or a channel and changes are possible in both...

oh... could you imagine the chaos?

nickserv/chanserv would be just one more thing to worry about.
