Do you use Round Robins to connect to EFnet?

Yes, I think they're useful, as servers come and go.

irc.efnet.eu round robin goes live

Postby seiki » Wed Sep 13, 2006 1:21 am

Earlier today, mofo from xs4all.nl announced that he has setup a Round Robin DNS zone for EU's open I:line servers. It's hostname is irc.efnet.eu. This new round robin will be displayed on our 'servers' page along with the other regional round robins. Here's the full list:

irc.efnet.org - Global EFnet RR
irc.efnet.eu - European EFnet RR
irc.efnet.us - USA EFnet RR
irc.efnet.ca - Canadian EFnet RR

While users may find these round robins helpful and choose to use them to automatically route them to a random EFnet server, it's probably a good idea for users to also visit the EFnet Server List and pick the geographically closest server, and connect directly to it.

Despite my vote of 'no'; I actually think irc.efnet.eu is a great addition.

I'm two ways about this.

They are not useful if you're based in the UK as there's only one UK server.

However, if that is down, or you can't connect to it, its at that point it becomes useful.

In addition to that, if you're at a remote location, or logged into one, and you're not sure which server would be best, you can just randomly pick one until it connects. Perhaps not the best method to find a server, but at least you can connect.
