I am new to IRC, and use PIDGIN as my client.
Can anyone tell me what this means:
(7:57:38 AM) irc.umich.edu: (notice) To complete your connection to this server, type "/QUOTE PONG :cookie", where cookie is the following ascii.
There is no ascii indicated, and I try /quote pong :cookie to no avail.
QUOTE PONG

Re: QUOTE PONG
i believe pidgin hides most server messages from the user. irc.umich.edu uses an anti-drone patch that asks non-ident users to enter the text from something like:
you can either configure a working ident, use a different irc client that will let you see the cookie, or try another irc server that does not require you to enter a cookie
