This probably doesn't belong here but I'm new to IRC so I quite honestly don't know what I'm doing. I'm on Ubuntu and Win 2k and I have IRC clients but I'm still trying to figure out how IRC works exactly. I guess my first question is whether IRC is like most IM clients. For example, does it work like yahoo where you use just one ID to access all of the chat rooms? Is there some easy to understand tutorial I can look at?
Thanks

On IRC, you can change your "ID" (called a "nick" [for nickname] on IRC), as often as you want to anything that isn't currently in use.
A good tutorial and other info can be found at http://www.irchelp.org . Some of the info is a bit old, but the basics of IRC are pretty much the same.
