the version info is of little use other than to exploit. -db Not really, it's useful for people looking for specific types of networks to link to, it's useful for developers seeing who runs their servers/services. With any sort of information, there's good and bad uses. If we go by all version info...

From my findings (maintaining the ircd.botbay.net ircd archive and writing IRC services programs), I've come across the following "statistics": csircd ( cs-ircd is something totally different) is rarely used on non-EFnet networks. I personally run an instance of it on an ircd/services test network, ...
Hybrid 6, Hybrid 7, and ircd-ratbox all function perfectly fine on Solaris. I've done development on all of these ircd's on a Solaris workstation, and I noticed no problems with any of the release versions. Also note that if you use either of the two more advanced daemons, you can use /dev/poll to v...

Why are you dredging up long dead threads? The +demon patch was a crutch to give Hybrid servers some ratbox functionality when ratbox was not allowed on EU-EFnet. The whole reason for the existance of the patch is now moot, so the author can do as he wishes. PS. Support for EFnet means support for E...

That's the whole reason "whois actually" was written. If they are on a hybrid 7/ratbox server, with that option enabled (I believe it is by default), you can remote whois them to see their real IP (unless they are spoofed by the server). These "DNS switch tricks" have been going on for many years no...

... security through obscurity usually doesn't work, because there are always ways around it (ie - jump servers, /whois, find the server that tells you the idle time, and you are on the same server as them) That specific issue (local WHOIS) doesn't exist in most modern serverhiding algorithms (mean...

why not just hide what server a user is using then? i'm suprised efnet hasnt done this already - its already in the code after all. It's not in all code...Hybrid 6's serverhide is broken, csircd has no serverhide functionality at all, and there's always ways around it and ways a smart abuser could ...

Some servers already have flattened links enabled (most of the ratbox and hybrid 7 ones, except demon) With flattened links, any hybrid 7/ircd-ratbox server can set itself hidden (by setting the serverhide { hidden = yes; }; option in the conf. The only problem is that Hybrid 6 and csircd servers ar...

As Hardy already said, some of it has to do with their network structure. A hub server separate from the client can be in a different network segment, and can remain up while a client server is being packeted to hell and back (or with its routes removed). In .il's case, if I remember correctly from ...

Old thread it is.. however the current services.int are finally open source also after some preasure.. http://www.codestud.com/services/ It's open source finally, but people trying to use it need to do a lot of work to get it to run. I've successfully gotten it running on my test network, so if you...
